Absorbent & economical; Listed absorbency of these vs. other Dynarex Underpads

I use Dynarex Underpads to line my dogs' crates so that if they have an accident while crated the moisture will be wicked away from them and contained. I only use these underpads for their crates and not the pads marketed for dogs because those are scented to make a dog want to urinate on them and that is NOT what I need. I don't want to encourage them to urinate in their crates.If you are going to use Dynarex Underpads for your dogs make sure that you get the ones that DO NOT contain polymer, and are safe to leave in the crate. Polymers can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of liquid relative to their own mass and if ingested or inhaled by your dog they have a high potential for causing choking or obstruction.Dynarex Underpads come in different "item numbers" with varying degrees of absorbency. All of those item numbers are made with 3 layers except for one. The top layer is non-woven fabric, the middle layer is wood pulp confined in 2 paper layers and the bottom layer is a polyethylene film that is waterproof and non-skid. Item numbers 1347 and 1348 have polymer added for extra absorbency. Item number 1340 is only 2 ply tissue filled and is not very absorbent.The secret to knowing what absorbency of Dynarex Underpads you are getting is knowing the item number you are buying and the weight per pad. According to the maker, they will hold up to 8 times the weight of the pad in liquid.Sometimes the product item number is clearly listed in the title of the listing, sometimes it can be found in the "Product Details" section of a listing, and sometimes it isn't listed at all which is a problem since Dynarex has some underpads in its product line that are the same size but have different item numbers and absorbencies, etc. Always check the item number on the product's packaging once you receive it to make sure that it is the same as what you purchased.The following is a list of Dynarex's entire line of underpads, their item numbers, size, weight per pad, and that weight multiplied by eight to show the amount of liquid they will hold:*ITEM # 1340 - 2 ply tissue filled, 17" x 24", weight not listed - very light, not very absorbent*ITEM # 1341 - 3 layered, 17" x 24", weigh 22 grams each (X 8 = 176 grams or 6.2 ounces; holds about ¾ of a cup)*ITEM # 1342 - 3 layered, 23" x 24", weigh 31 grams each (X 8 = 248 grams or 8.7 ounces; holds about a cup)*ITEM # 1343 - 3 layered, 23" x 36", weigh 45 grams each, (X 8 = 360 grams or 12.7 ounces; holds about 1 ½ cups)*ITEM # 1346 - 3 layered, 23" x 36", weigh 60 grams each (X 8 = 480 grams or 17 ounces; holds about 2 cups)*ITEM # 1347 - 3 layered plus polymer, 30"x 30", weigh 105 grams each (X 8 = 840 grams or 30 ounces; holds 3 ¾ cups or more - added absorbency of polymer unknown)*ITEM # 1348 - 3 layered plus polymer, 30"x 36", weigh 90 grams per pad (X 8 = 720 grams or 25 ounces; holds 3 cups or more - added absorbency of polymer unknown)

Very durable. The padding did not look very thick, but I found it to be very absorbent. It was excellent.

I use these for my small dog. They do not hold much pee. Need to change often. The backing let pee seep through.
